I’m getting so sick and tired of white, “sex-pozzie” libfems. I’m done with them. I’m done with their glamorization of prostitution when numerous studies have shown that most women are forced into prostitution, either because they are escaping abusive relationships, unable to support themselves or their family, lack of job training, etc. and for young, under-aged girls, getting coerced into prostitution largely has to do with running away from abuse (often sexual and incestuous) from home.
I’m done with their glamorization of prostitution as something that is more often safe than not, when numerous studies, assist programs and surveys have shown that most prostitutes are repeatedly raped and beaten by their clients/johns and pimps.
I’m done with the glorification of word reclamation, when in the minds of men conditioned from birth to view women as “whores,” and “sluts” these views are being reinforced from libfem rhetoric that says this mentality is okay, as long as women accept it.
I’m done with the glorification of word reclamation without looking at how class and race play a defining role in the stigmata, racist, sexist and classist weight these words carry for non-white, middle to upper class women.
I’m done with the acceptance of misogynistic fantasies and attitudes that somehow become immune to criticism or analysis simply because they are apart of a person’s sexuality. The fact that patriarchal interpretations of male-female power dynamics suddenly become tolerable and even encouraged under the guise of “sex-positivity” in modern day, liberal feminism is horrifying. Especially since it does not even encourage the men and women who have these fantasies to challenge them and look at where they come from. A desire to rape a woman or young girl can be “positive” and I’ve seen arguments that propose that said fantasies are entirely natural and not potentially symptomatic of a rape culture that sexualizes violence against women.
I’m done with the silencing of women of color who criticize the libfem communities mentality on sex, sexuality, prostitution and rape culture. Who silence us despite the fact that we are more likely to be raped than white women and forced into prostitution (and as long as its gender and class inequity that coerces women into prostitution, I refuse to call it “work.” Often times, female prostitutes do not keep most of the money they make, if any at all).
I’m done with the massive decontextualization of empowerment and feminists sexualizing feminism. The attempt to make (liberal) feminism as appealing as possible to the general public and the mainstream has made it, well, mainstream. In other words, patriarchal and oppressive. Empowerment has been reduced down to materialistic, consumerist-fueled, individualism where the focus has shifted from what activism will increase women’s political, economic and cultural status to how women can empower themselves within the patriarchal system rather than empower themselves by destroying it entirely.
I’m done with pretending all actions are conscientious decisions with no relations to our environment, upbringing, cultural pressures or gendered socialization. That all choices have no societal context, thus all choices are empowering.
I’m done with white, sex-pozzie libfems.
